This battery charger is designed as per RDSO specification no.ETI/PSI/1(6/81) and is meant to charge lead acid batteries.
Since the specification is several years old, the technology it asked for is also old. It is purely manual with low frequency mains transformer, rectifier etc.
But the charger developed by 3Q magnetic implements high frequency Switch Mode design with auto and manual charging. The unit is much compact compared to the many existing chargers being used by Railways. The charger implements active power factor control, giving better than 0.95 power factor.
